Booking & Cancellations
How far in advance do I need to book?
We strongly recommend booking online in advance — especially for weekends and holidays, as spots fill up fast! Same-day online booking is available when spots remain, but we can’t guarantee availability for walk-ins. Weekdays tend to have more open availability if you’re flexible.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
All sales are final — no refunds after payment. Here’s how it works:
- Cancel 24+ hours before your reservation: We’ll hold a credit valid through October 15, 2027, with no fees.
- Cancel less than 24 hours before: No credit issued.
- We may reschedule due to severe weather, flooding, or low group participation (fewer than 5). Contact us by email or text to manage any changes.
What happens if it rains on the day of my reservation?
We monitor conditions closely. If we determine weather makes it unsafe to paddle, we’ll reach out to reschedule at no charge. Light rain? We still go — and honestly, it’s one of the most peaceful times to be on the water! If you choose to cancel due to weather, our standard cancellation policy applies (see above).
Kayak Rentals vs. Guided Tours
What’s the difference between a rental and a guided tour — which should I choose?
- Rentals are self-guided. You get a map, a safety briefing, and head out on your own. Great for independent paddlers or those who want to go at their own pace.
- Guided Tours include a knowledgeable guide who leads the group, shares wildlife facts and local history, and keeps everyone safe. Tours are available weekends and holidays only.
Our recommendation: First time out? Go guided. You’ll learn more, see more, and have a blast. Experienced and want freedom? Rent and explore at your own pace!
First-Timers & Families
I’ve never kayaked before — will I hold everyone back?
Not a chance! First-timers are our favorite guests. Our guides have seen every skill level imaginable, and their entire job is making sure you feel confident and have fun. The water is calm, flat, and dam-controlled — no rapids, no strong current, no stress. You’ve got this.
What age is too young for kayaking?
Kids of all ages are welcome in tandem kayaks with a parent or guardian! Single kayak rentals require paddlers to be 12 or older. Younger kids(less than 70lbs) ride in the middle of a tandem — it’s one of the most popular setups for families. We’ve had toddlers out here having the time of their lives.
What should I wear and bring?
- Wear: Clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet. Quick-dry fabrics are ideal. Water shoes or sandals with a strap work great — flip flops can fall off in the water!
- Bring: Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a water bottle, and a sense of adventure.
- We provide: Kayak, paddle, and PFD (life jacket) for all rentals and tours.
Dogs
Are dogs welcome?
Absolutely — all well-behaved dogs are welcome! Here’s what you need to know:
- Dogs under 40 lbs can ride in the middle of a tandem kayak as a third passenger.
- Dogs over 40 lbs ride as the second passenger in a tandem
- Dogs must be leashed in the campground at all times.
- A waiver is required for all pups on the water.
We’ve had dogs of all sizes join us — they love it just as much as their humans!
Camping
What are the campsites like?
Our campsites are rustic waterfront sites — a true back-to-nature experience right on the Illinois River. Each site includes:
- A firepit with a swing-away grill grate
- A picnic table
- Access to upgraded porta potty facilities
Please note: there are no electricity hookups, no showers, and no RV connections but we are working on it(COMING SOON) Tent camping, pop-ups, and teardrops camper vans are all welcome. About 90 campsites are available.
Bringing Your Own Equipment
Can I bring my own kayak?
Yes! Campers are welcome to bring their own kayaks and launch from our site. We also offer a BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) guided tour for $39/person — so you can enjoy the full guide experience without renting from us.

FAQ’s
Are Kayaks stable?
ABSOLUTELY! Kayaks are even more stable than canoes because you sit in the boat lower than the waterline. TANDEM KAYAKS ARE VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TIP. Also Kayaks have a low freeboard which means that they are less prone to being pushed around by the wind AND you are using a double bladed paddle which makes them more efficient when your partner stops paddling! ;)
Can 3 ppl ride in one kayak?
YES! Our Tandem Kayaks will hold up to 550 pounds and can easily fit 2 adults and 1 small child(Less than 70 pounds) or a small dog(less than 40lbs) in the middle. Â As long as total passengers and gear weight are under 550 pounds you are good to go. Â Best of all we dont charge extra for the 3rd person for rentals! Also if you have a dog that is over 40 pounds they can ride as a second passenger in a tandem.
Do you allow dogs?
YES! We allow well behaved leashed dogs in campsites, kayak rentals and guided kayak tours. Must sign a waiver and agree to our rules.
Do you allow alcohol?
We allow alcohol in the campground. We DO NOT allow alcohol in any rented kayak.
Can we rent one kayak and trade off passengers?
No. We do not allow swapping of passengers for kayak rentals. The kayak rental passengers must remain the same throughout the entire rental period due to safety regulations. No Exceptions!
